MSExchange Common Event 6003  (MSExchangeHMHost)

After installing Exchange Server 2013 Service Pack 1 I'm getting 6003 error in the event log:

MSExchangeHMHost: Exchange failed to create the log directory D:\MonitoringDiagnosticLogs\MSExchangeHMHost ...

I can't believe it but see for yourself: this "D:\..." path is HARDCODED to "\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Bin\Microsoft.Exchange.Monitoring.ActiveMonitoring.Local.Components.dll"  !!!

How could it be and how to deal with this error!?

Hello,

Please make sure whether you configure Environment Variables or use Junction tool / Hardlink to modify path.

Please open Control Panel , select System, select Advanced system settings, click it, check Environment Variables under Advanced.

I'm having the same issue with 2013. I go to the log and copy and paste the path into explorer. Opens fine.

In our case, we needed to remove an empty D drive from a particular server with this folder. We just tested this in our Lab: Removed the disk without stopping the service, nothing broke. Restarted service to see what would happen, get the one off error in the Event log.

MSExchangeHMHost: Failed to create the log directory: D:\MonitoringDiagnosticLogs\MSExchangeHMHost because of the error: Could not find a part of the path 'D:\'.. Logs will not be generated until the problem is corrected.

Since this log is never really used anyway, I'm just going to ignore it. It would be REALLY nice if there was some info from Microsoft on this. :: )
